Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of subtotal resection of benign tumors in the superficial lobe of parotid gland. Methods 52 patients with benign tumors of superficial parotid gland treated were randomly divided into two groups. The control group was treated with total parotidectomy and the observation group was treated with subtotal parotidectomy. The operation indexes, complications, facial nerve injury and quality of life were compared. Results The operation time, incision length, intraoperative bleeding, anatomical branches of facial nerve and hospital stay in the observation group were less than those in the control group(P<0.05);The incidence of complications such as subcutaneous effusion or salivary fistula, facial depression deformity, temporary facial paralysis, ototemporal nerve syndrome and earlobe numbness in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05);The degree 1,degree 2,degree 3 and degree 4 of facial nerve and the total incidence in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05);The SF-36 scores of 8 dimensions in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Subtotal resection of benign tumors in the superficial lobe of parotid gland has significant clinical effect, which can preserve the parotid gland tissue to the greatest extent, avoid facial nerve injury, reduce the probability of complications and improve the quality of life.
