Abstract Psychosomatic medicine is a new discipline, which diagnoses, treats and recovers diseases by studying the relationship among physiology, psychology and society and their correlation with health and disease.More and more studies have shown that knee osteoarthritis(KOA)is a psychosomatic disease.Three interrelated factors affect the occurrence and development of KOA,including physiological factors(joint degeneration, muscle weakness, inflammation, etc.),psychological factors(tension, anxiety, depression, fear, sleep disorders, etc.)and social factors(reduced social interaction, lack of social support, deterioration of social relations,etc.).With the rise of exercise therapy in the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, the application of psychosomatic exercise therapy to KOA can release the pain, improve joint function, mood, sleep quality and social life of KOA patients,in line with the treatment needs of KOA patients.
